We should invest in science
If for nothing else, at least because we're their lab rats.
This thought came to mind when reading the following footnote in Proust was a Neuroscientist, by Jonah Lehrer:
"These treatments included [...] pulling their teeth, which was believed to lower the temperature of the body. Other unfortunate patients got the fever cure, in which psychosis was treated with an injection of malaria, tuberculosis, or typhoid."
